Solar Facts
Tax advantages:
Generous federal, state and local government tax credits and rebates can reduce the cost of your solar system by as much as 50 percent.
Fast return-on-investment:
A modern solar system can pay for itself in as few as 5 years.
Abundance:
The earth receives more energy from the sun in one hour than the world uses in a year.
Well-suited to U.S. climate:
The United States has vast areas that get enormous amounts of sunlight. The Mojave Desert is home to the world's largest solar power plant, covering 1,000 acres and producing an amazing 90 percent of the world's commercially produced solar power.
Frequently Asked Questions
How clean are solar systems?
Solar energy production is pollution free. Solar does not produce any greenhouse gases, which are believed by many scientists to be the cause of global warming.
How long will installation take?
Installation for a home usually takes 1-3 days depending on size and complexity.
How long will my solar system last?
Most components of solar energy systems - including the photovoltaic panels - have 25 year warranties. But there are systems more than 30 years old still operating efficiently.
How difficult is it to install?
Your home or business does not need retrofitting because solar energy systems are designed to fit seamlessly into existing structures. If your roof is old or requires repair, fix or replace it prior to the system install. This prevents the future cost of removal and reinstallation of the system.
Is there any preparatory work needed?
Prior to installation it is wise to increase the energy efficiency of your home or building. Install compact fluorescent lights, insulation, and upgrade to energy efficient appliances and windows. Occasionally the roof structure will require strengthening and vents may be relocated. Bushes and trees also may be trimmed or removed.
Are solar systems hard to maintain?
Because solar systems have no moving parts they require little or no maintenance, other than occasional inspection and cleaning.
How can I maximize my solar system energy production?
Systems are typically oriented south or west to maximize performance. Prevent shade on your solar system by keeping trees and bushes trimmed. Keep panels free from dust, dirt, and bird droppings.
What maintenance is recommended?
Wash dust and dirt off your solar panels with water and a soft brush twice per year. Green Sky Solar, Inc. can provide a maintenance schedule to wash your solar panels and check the electrical connections of the wiring and general condition of your equipment.
Do solar systems emit noise?
Solar panels have no moving parts and are silent during operation.
What happens if my solar system breaks or stops working?
There are no moving parts to break (meaning no mechanical wear and tear) so systems are very reliable. Contact Green Sky Solar, Inc. if any problems arise. Do not attempt to repair the solar system yourself.
Will a solar system produce electricity on cloudy days?
Yes, solar panels absorb various spectrums of visible and invisible light, however energy production will be less than on clear and sunny days.
What is the affect of shade on a solar system?
Systems should be placed where there are minimal amounts of shade from trees, other buildings, chimneys, or objects.
